Women began augmenting their breasts surgically ever since 19th century.
Silicone breast implant has influenced plastic surgery to more extent than any other medical preparation. According to estimates, now there are up to 100 000 breast implantations performed in the world per a year. Usual reasons – small from birth breasts, changes due to deliveries and breast-feeding, asymmetry of the breasts. Traditional way of breast augmentation is silicone prostheses.
Various types of silicone prostheses are used. The silicone capsules are being improved – from polyurethane texture to titanium sputtering. Also offered are new improved silicone fillers.
When implanting silicone prostheses, there is always arising the first question – where precisely to make the incision? Usually, three types of incisions are performed: under the breast (submammary), peripapillary (periareolar) and underarm. Their length depends on the type and size of the prostheses.
